From overlapping text in the game’s menus, to some truly horrendous character models, low-detail environments and the previously mentioned performance issues when things start to get packed out on the screen, it’s fair to say that Cities XXL could have done with buckets of the stuff. Sure, there’s a 50% discount right now if you already own Cities XL, but if that’s the case, then you already practically own this game as well. There are a few additions to the mix here, but there’s nothing that will take your breath away.
It was at this point I thought I should lay down some largish industrial and residential zones in one whack and the PC had to really think about it. It was almost impossible to correctly select icons running at a native 4K resolution, and function trumps form in real world tests. It’s not all bad from a presentational point of view however, as the aural side of things is actually pretty accomplished.Īfter all, the Cities franchise does have a penchant for doing this. To stay up to date with the latest strategy gaming guides, news, and reviews, follow Strategy Gamer on Twitter and Facebook. Sadly, they have chosen to push out a slightly different version of Cities XL. I definitely don’t want to downplay this as a piece of tech, since trying to work with hyper threading is about as easy as trying to herd cats using a leaf blower, but it’s simply not proving to be a noticeable improvement.Įven then, it’s probably worth waiting for a sale before you do that. There’s an optional day and night cycle, as well as the option to choose the time of day and just stick with it, as well as mood filters, changing the lighting and colours both subtly and dramatically.
However while some of the content is neat, most of the modders are merely creating stuff that should have been in the game in the first place something that is especially true with the Cities XXL Enhanced Mod doing the rounds right now that effectively works as an on-going, unofficial patch for the game (the city trading issue is just one of the fixes included in the mod). Making such claims is completely nonsensical and makes those who throw them about look plain stupid.XXL is not really a “new” game, and that’s the most important thing any owner of the previous Cities games should know before thinking about spending any cash on this one.ĭepuis sa sortie en 2009, j'ai acheté toutes les versions de Cities XL jusqu'à la XXL. But many of them assert that there's absolutely nothing of value that's been changed. Whether the price is worth it is up for the individual to decide.
I understand people on steam resenting the fact that they have to pay for these features. I'm sure the many others here with more than 1 hour of in-game experience can tell you this as well.
With these changes, I can't say exactly how much better the game is overall in performance, but it seemed noticeably improved to me during the 31 hours of testing I did. That's the reason they went into the engine and changed things. Multi-core support and improved memory usage are pretty much the biggest features of this release. Most anything they're saying is bound to be inflated, or simply false. I would like some links to those "reports".Īnd I hope it's not speculation by the currently raging trolls in the steam forums.
